North Korea. The most isolated, repressive, and notorious regime on the planet. Kim Jong Un is the absolute ruler. But there is a woman there who is just as powerful as Kim Jong-un. She's a female powerhouse whose every appearance is newsworthy and the center of attention. This is Kim Jong Un's sister, Kim Yo Jong.
Kim Yo-Jong's first public appearance was at the funeral of her father, Kim Jong-Il, on December 17, 2011, and no one could have predicted how high her profile would rise from a young woman who was simply crying. Today, however, Kim Yo-Jong is considered a "key figure in North Korea," and her presence is felt on both domestic and international stages. She is always at Kim's side and running the show. She even reads speeches criticizing the United States or South Korea in front of state television cameras. Her father, Kim Jong-il, once said that if Kim Yo-jong were a man, he would have given her power. She also expressed a desire to enter politics, appealing to her father. She is said to be smarter and more intelligent than Kim Jong-un.
Kim Jong-un's leadership is currently being tested by international pressure and internal discontent. 'Kim Jong-un is always drinking, crying, and suffering from loneliness,' the UK's Telegraph reported. His health can take a sudden turn for the worse, and if he dies, his younger sister, Kim Yo Jong, is likely to succeed him.
Kim Yo-jong's stiff competitor is Kim Jong Un's wife, Ri Sol Ju. The British newspaper The Times analyzed that Kim Jong-un's reason for revealing his daughter was to reassure his wife, Ri Sol-ju, who competes with his sister Kim Yo-jong. Recently, Kim Jong-un has been attending important events with his daughter. North Korean state media always show close-ups of the leader's daughter. But this is a double-edged sword, foreshadowing a power struggle between Kim Yo Jong and Ri Sol Ju in the near future.
Nevertheless, Kim Yo Jong is currently the most powerful woman in North Korea. In the long run, her consolidation of power will pose a major threat to Kim Jong-un. In the past, Kim Jong-un has killed anyone who threatened him. His uncle, Jang Song-thaek, was executed by flamethrower and his brother, Kim Jong-nam, was poisoned.
Historically, it's not uncommon for members of the royal family to fight each other. On one side is Kim Yo Jong, considered as North Korea's queen, and on the other is Kim Jong Un, known for eliminating anyone who threatens him. The power struggle between the two may begin sooner than expected.
